The Defense Association of New York (DANY) is proud to launch the DANY Pro Bono Honors, celebrating the invaluable contributions of attorneys, law firms, law students and law schools who dedicate their time and expertise to pro bono work in the State of New York from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026.


Program Highlights:

  • Digital Certificate:  Each participant will receive a digital certificate featuring a DANY Pro Bono Honors logo for use in marketing and promotional materials—whether as a firm, individual or law school.  
  • Public Recognition: A comprehensive list of all participating individuals, firms and law schools will be published on the DANY website and featured in a dedicated social media post.
  • No Minimum Amount of Hours: There is no minimum amount of hours required to receive the digital certificate or public recognition.
  • Three Participation Categories:
  1. DANY Members
  2. Non-Members
  3. Law Students

Awards:

DANY Members Individual Awards (based on most pro bono hours):

  • Gold Medal
  • Silver Medal
  • Bronze Medal

Non-Members Individual Awards (based on most pro bono hours):

  • Gold Medal
  • Silver Medal
  • Bronze Medal
Law Student Individual Awards (based on most pro bono hours):
  • Gold Medal
  • Silver Medal
  • Bronze Medal

DANY Member Firm Awards (based on total pro bono hours by DANY Member Firm):

  • Gold Medal
  • Silver Medal
  • Bronze Medal

Non-Member Firm Awards (based on most pro bono hours by Non-Member firm):

  • Gold Medal
  • Silver Medal
  • Bronze Medal
Law School Awards (based on most pro bono hours by Law School):
  • Gold Medal
  • Silver Medal
  • Bronze Medal

All medals will be presented at a future DANY Awards Dinner, offering a moment of well-deserved recognition among peers and leaders in the legal community.

The cost to participate in the DANY Pro Bono Honors competition is $25 per individual, which will be used to cover the costs of administering the program.  

All pro bono work must take place for a pro bono service provider in the State of New York.  DANY is not a pro bono services provider.  Each participant will need to volunteer with a pro bono service provider.  Here are some websites that can assist you in finding a pro bono service provider:

The deadline to submit your total pro bono hours from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026 will be January 15, 2027.

To submit your total pro bono hours, please send an email with adequate proof of your total hours to danyexecdir@gmail.com no later than 11:59 pm on January 15, 2027.

Adequate proof of your pro bono hours must include:

1. Your Full Name,

2. Law firm or law school,

3. Your business or personal mailing address,

4. Your email address,

5. Your telephone number,

6. The full name(s), address(es), telephone number(s) and email address(es) of pro bono service provider(s) for which you served,

7. Date(s) of pro bono service for each provider, and

8. Your total number of hours.
